The vision behind FlatWhite was to design a wall light that seamlessly blends into daily life—much like your cherished morning coffee. 

Beyond the playful name, the FlatWhite offers a warm, inviting glow paired with a beautifully tactile finish. Its handblown glass diffuser features a concave chamfer and an acid-etched opal finish, enhancing its elegance. Almost ethereal, it hovers slightly off the wall, with a discreet cutaway heatsink that gracefully recedes into the shadows, allowing the light to take centre stage.

ADesignStudio, led by Alex Fitzpatrick, is an award-winning lighting design and manufacturing practice based in Sydney, Australia, with an international distribution network. The studio’s collections showcase a distinctly expressive approach to transforming spaces with light, blending traditional techniques like glassblowing and metalworking with contemporary lighting technologies to achieve a harmonious balance between the scientific and the poetic.

The poetic qualities of light are integral to the studio’s philosophy. The objects we choose to surround ourselves with in our homes and workplaces resonate with us for reasons beyond mere functionality. A light fixture can illuminate a room or a page in a book, but it can also evoke memories—like the way sunlight filters through a grove of trees or the vibrant sight of tropical bougainvillea on a city street. It may even hint at the history of an early colonial lighthouse and its convict architect. Through the artistry of glass, a light can create a tranquil environment, enveloping a reader in a gentle pool of dappled illumination.
