Sydney-based artist Alina Gozin’a has developed an international, transdisciplinary practice spanning fine-art photography, luminous optical works and eroded brass photographic plates. Informed by a life lived across Sydney, New York, Los Angeles, Amsterdam and Hamburg, her work explores identity, belonging and the historical forces that shape individuals and communities.

Looking to the past as a way of understanding the present, Gozin’a connects intimate human narratives with broader civic and cultural histories. Her work has been exhibited in Sydney and New York, recognised by the National Portrait Gallery, Head On Photo Festival, Art & About Sydney and the London Photographic Association, and is held in distinguished private and corporate collections.

Her acclaimed New York series The Doormen of New York offered an intimate portrait of the men entrusted with the secrets of the city’s residents, while paying homage to New York’s immigrant foundations. For the past decade, Gozin’a has developed Confessions of the Heart (2016–2026), a four-part photographic essay created across New York and Sydney. The cycle culminates in Sydney Love Stories: 50 documentary-style portraits accompanied by handwritten confessions of love, to be presented as a public exhibition at Muru Giligi, 1 Elizabeth Street, Sydney.

Gozin’a has twice been appointed an inaugural Artist in Residence—at Time & Place and, most recently, The Sandstones Club. Beyond the studio, she serves on the Industry Advisory Board of the UTS TD School and presents The Art of Seeing, her acclaimed keynote examining creative intelligence in an increasingly AI-driven world. Her practice is united by a belief in art as a way of seeing more deeply: creating connection, preserving memory and revealing the human stories held beneath the surface.
