The Doorman Of New York
The Night Watch
Poised between the public city and the private world beyond, a New York doorman stands with quiet authority. His composed gaze and immaculate uniform evoke the presence of a sentinel - watchful, dignified and entrusted with the lives unfolding behind closed doors.
Part of Alina Gozin’a’s acclaimed The Doormen of New York series, The Night Watch honours the often-unseen figures who define the character of the city’s grand residential buildings. The work reflects upon service, discretion and belonging, while acknowledging the immigrant histories woven into New York’s identity.
As the viewer moves, the image fragments and reforms through shifting light and perspective. Suspended between photography and sculptural object, The Night Watch transforms a single portrait into a study of visibility, identity and quiet human presence.
