Fields Of Spring

Henrik Godsk (b. 1975, Hjørring, Denmark) is a Danish artist living and working in Northern Jutland. A seventh-generation Traveller, Godsk was raised within his family’s travelling fair, journeying throughout Denmark and Norway. He began painting at the age of seven, apprenticing under his grandfather and father while restoring the fair’s painted façades—an early education in colour, precision and ornament that continues to inform his practice. He holds an MA in Art and Literature from Aalborg University.

Godsk is recognised for geometric portraits populated by enigmatic, often androgynous figures that appear suspended between past and future. Controlled contours, flattened planes and carefully calibrated colour bring the formal language of Cubism and Modernism into dialogue with fairground decoration, medieval murals, Baroque portraiture and contemporary visual culture.

His figures function as vessels through which he explores identity, ancestry, memory and the human condition. Godsk has exhibited internationally, with solo presentations in London, New York, Paris, Cologne, Stockholm, Tokyo and Sydney. His work is held in prominent public and private collections, including the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum in Madrid and The Bunker Artspace in Florida.
