The Morphious Side Table by Dimitri Vargas unites two elemental materials — solid American oak and Calacatta marble — in a composition that feels both grounded and ethereal. Each piece is a sculptural interplay of weight and lightness, where the organic warmth of timber meets the cool precision of stone.

Handcrafted in Sydney, the table’s fluid oak base is shaped with soft, natural curves that evoke geological formations, while the polished marble top rests above like a floating landscape. The subtle irregularities of the marble’s veining enhance its individuality, making each table a one-of-a-kind expression of natural artistry.

Balancing craftsmanship and material honesty, the Morphious Side Table captures Vargas’ design ethos — a dialogue between the human hand and nature’s inherent form. Perfect as a standalone sculpture or paired within a modern interior, it embodies the quiet sophistication of functional art.

Dimitri Vargas

Sydney-based designer creates furniture and objects that bring together sculptural form, functional purpose and a deep sensitivity to material. Initially trained in interior design, Vargas developed an early understanding of how objects shape the way we experience space. His practice now moves across furniture and object design, drawing from organic forms, natural materials and the quiet elegance of classical proportion.

Guided by timelessness, craft and environmental respect, Vargas creates objects designed to endure both physically and emotionally. His use of recycled timber and marble off-cuts reflects a thoughtful approach to making, where material is honoured rather than forced. Each piece is designed to bring calm, curiosity and presence to an interior, quietly transforming the atmosphere of a room through tactile detail and sculptural restraint.
