Marc Barold

Sydney-based contemporary artist Marc Barold is known for dynamic large-scale sculptural works that explore the meeting point between the natural and the manufactured. Trained in sculpture at the College of Fine Arts, UNSW, and later in film art direction and design at AFTRS, Barold’s practice sits at the intersection of fine art, design, technology and material innovation. His work is driven by a fascination with form, transformation and the evolving patterns of the world around us.

Barold began sculpting at the age of 13 and, in 1997, won first prize at Sculpture by the Sea in Bondi. Over the past two decades, his award-winning work in production design and fabrication for major live events, installations, film and television has continued to inform his sculptural practice. This cross-disciplinary experience allows him to approach materials with technical precision and creative ambition, producing works that occupy space with presence, reflection and movement.
