This exceptional creation pairs Rose Extrême Swift leather with panels of marbled silk, rendered through a centuries-old Japanese technique known as Suminagashi — the art of floating ink.
The story of this silk is as intricate as its surface. After a decade-long pursuit to revive this near-lost art, Hermès discovered the Nose family of Kyoto, Japan, the only remaining masters capable of transferring this hypnotic technique from paper to fabric. Originating in 12th-century Japan, Suminagashi’s delicate swirls of pigment once adorned sacred manuscripts before travelling to Europe and evolving into the marbling tradition known today.
Here, it finds new expression — transformed by Hermès into a fluid tapestry of rose, coral, saffron, and azure tones, each composition wholly unique. The bag’s iconic palladium “H” clasp anchors the artistry in modern elegance, a statement of both legacy and innovation.
